Metabones Introduces New EF-MFT Smart Adapters and Adds Phase-Detection Autofocus (PDAF) Support

Metabones' lineup of EF-MFT Speed Boosters® and Smart Adapters have stood the test of time. For over a decade, they have been trusted, indispensable tools for cinematographers. Metabones is also the most feature-laden on the market. In addition to usual flair like support for autofocus and auto exposure, there are numerous features particularly pertinent to videography: cinema lens support, smooth iris and remote-control of zoom, focus and iris. Both in-body and optical image stabilization (IBIS, IS, OS and VC) are supported, with the necessary metadata and communication carefully crafted to maximize effectiveness no matter which camera or lens is used.
Although the new EF-MFT CINE Smart Adapter and EF-MFT Smart Adapter II share the same underpinnings as existing Metabones products, they do have new exclusive features that are not available on previous Metabones EF-MFT Speed Boosters and Smart Adapters: • Upgraded microprocessor. • Support for Panasonic DMW-TC14 (1.4x), DMW-TC20 (2x) and DMW-TC20A (2x) teleconverters. • Support for OM System cameras. • Larger opening which works better with f/1.2 lenses on JVC GY-LS300 set to full Super 35 sensor size. • LED indicator. • EXIF metadata for up to 3 fully manual lenses may be stored on the adapter.
Availability
The new Metabones® EF to MFT Smart Adapter CINE is available right now from Metabones’ worldwide network of resellers and the Metabones online shop for USD449 plus applicable shipping, taxes and duties. The Metabones® EF to MFT Smart Adapter Mark II will be available in early August 2024 for USD399 plus applicable shipping, taxes and duties shortly afterwards.
New firmware with PDAF support
At the same time that the new products launch, Metabones releases new firmware version 4.10 for EF-MFT Speed Boosters and Smart Adapters (download here). The headline feature is the addition of phase-detection autofocus (PDAF) support for the Panasonic G9 II camera. Autofocus performance will also improve with many other cameras. Even the first Metabones EF-MFT products from 10 years ago receive the latest firmware upgrade and leverage the latest technological advances. Metabones wishes to assure existing customers that the intention is for both new and old hardware to keep on receiving firmware upgrades in the foreseeable future.
