Checking and updating adapter firmware
About This User Manual
This user manual is pertinent to firmware version 68 or above. There may be significant difference in operation for previous versions.
Checking Firmware Version of Smart Adapter
To check the adapter firmware version of your adapter, attach any Canon EF lens to the adapter and put it on a Sony E-Mount camera body. Press the 'MENU' button and choose the last tab on newer cameras or the 'Setup' icon on older cameras. Find the 'Version' function in the list.
On FS series video cameras, press MENU > OTHERS > VERSION DISPLAY.
Updating firmware of Smart Adapter and Speed Booster
Prerequisites
-
Only Smart Adapter Mark IV, Smart Adapter Mark V, Speed Booster ULTRA, Speed Booster ULTRA II, Contax N to Sony E-Mount Smart Adapter and Contax N to Sony E-Mount Speed Booster ULTRA support downloadable firmware updates by the end-user. For Smart Adapter Mark I, Mark II, Mark III and the original Speed Booster, firmware update is by factory service only. Contact Metabones customer service for details. There may be a nominal shipping and handling charge.
-
You must have a micro USB 2.0 cable.
-
Use a Mac with macOS 10.13.6 or above, or a PC running Windows 8.1, Windows 10 or Windows 11. Note: Metabones App may not run properly on Mac with two or more monitors connected. If you encounter difficulties disconnect one of the monitors.
-
Download Metabones App from www.metabones.com. It can be found on the Support/Download page or any Smart Adapter or Speed Booster product page. The same Metabones App updates all Metabones products.
Procedure
-
Run Metabones App.
- Attach micro USB 2.0 cable directly to one of the USB ports on your computer. USB ports on an external USB hub, such as USB ports which may be available on your wired keyboard, may NOT work.
- If 'OK' is displayed in Green, the Speed Booster or Smart Adapter is already up-to-date. Though unnecessary, an update can be forced by unplugging USB and reattaching it while pushing and holding down the WO button on the Speed Booster or Smart Adapter.
-
To update, follow the directions on the screen, which may advise you to plug in the micro USB 2.0 cable again while pushing and holding down the WO button on the Speed Booster or Smart Adapter.
-
Metabones App will detect the adapter and display the “Update” button.
-
Click “Update”.
