ABOUT THIS DOWNLOAD
- Name: Firmware update V4.20 (#1672) for Canon EF to Micro Four Thirds Smart AdapterTM/Speed Booster®
- Release date: 22 Nov 2024
- Benefits and improvements:
- Fixed issues with manual lens EXIF ('chip') emulation function (Smart Adapter II and CINE Smart Adapter only)
- Remove the ability to toggle the option "Combine OIS and ES for Panasonic; legacy AF for Olympus; disable AF for Blackmagic" by power-cycling the camera while keeping the jog lever depressed inward the whole time, which used to allow the user to change the option in the field without a computer in previous versions up to v4.10. Starting with v4.20
- Metabones App is the only way to change the said option. Metabones App's downgrade feature now permits changing options that are not already set to their default values, while options already at their respective default settings remain greyed-out. The reason for this change is primarily to ensure that the "Combine OIS and ES for Panasonic" option can still be disabled in the downgrade use-case scenario.
- Fixed exposure metering issue with Sigma 18-35T2 CINE lens
- Fixed live-view blackout while using C-AF at high frame rate on OM-1
- Fixed aperture display and control issues with EF70-200/4L IS II USM lens
- Fixed compatibility issue with Laowa 100mm f/2.8 Micro
- PDAF AF-C performance improvement on Panasonic, especially in still photo mode, and motor noise reduction

- Benefits and improvements:
- Fixed touch AF misfocus regression on GH5.
- Add iris display for Sigma CINE 18-35/1.8 T2.0 on JVC and Panasonic. At the time of writing, Blackmagic and Olympus will not display the iris value because they don't support lenses' aperture rings in general.
- For diagnostics the firmware version of the lens, if available, is now appended to the EXIF lens name.
- Sigma 50-100/1.8 DC HSM Art 016, Sigma 135/1.8 DG HSM Art 017 and Tamron 15-30/2.8 VC USD A012 now fixed to perform initial calibration only once. The camera needs to be switched off and in the case of the zoom lens (50-100/1.8) the zoom needs to be rotated back and forth between the wide and the tele end once to store lens calibration data.
- Name: Firmware update V3.4 for Canon EF to Micro Four Thirds Smart AdapterTM/Speed Booster®
- Release date: 23 August 2019
- Benefits and improvements:
- Fixed issue with BMPCC4K where if lenses are swapped without turning power off autofocus sometimes ceases to function.
- Fixed issue with using external USB power supply where camera would not connect to the lens again after power-off/power-on without first disconnecting the external USB power source.
- Add option to combine OIS and Electronic Stabilization (ES) at the same time with supported Panasonic cameras. (However do NOT use with GX8. Click on the question mark [?] next to the option and read the online help for further details.)
- Continuous AF is now enabled on all Olympus cameras, including in movie mode, except when used with certain Tamron lenses. (Previously only available on the E-M1 series in still photo mode.) However, C-AF may have unsatisfactory speed and accuracy. Many lenses are incompatible with C-AF because they have high latency and they are unable to execute frequent small movements in a timely fashion.
- On Olympus the custom function button L-Fn can be configured on the camera body (if supported).
- Stability improvement for Panasonic cameras.
- Name: Firmware update V3.31 for Canon EF to Micro Four Thirds Smart AdapterTM/Speed Booster®
- Release date: 22 June 2019
- Benefits and improvements:
- With Olympus and Panasonic cameras, when power is turned on, the lens will now return to the same focus position after traversing its focus range. For this to work the "park focus" option needs to be turned off and the lens needs to support distance information.
- Fixed compatibility issue with lens firmware version 2 of Tamron 10-24/3.5-4.5 VC HLD B023E.
- Fixed issue with Sigma 50-100/1.8 DC HSM ART 016 and Sigma 135/1.8 DG HSM ART 017 on Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K whereas if the lens and Speed Booster or Smart Adapter have been attached first before the camera is turned on there will be no iris display.

- EXIF improvement.
- Name: Firmware update V3.10 for Canon EF to Micro Four Thirds Smart AdapterTM/Speed Booster®
- Release date: 22 Mar 2019
- Benefits and improvements:
- Support for "AF Stop" button on some Canon super-telephoto IS lenses as a customizable button on GH5.
- For Smart Adapter only (MB_EF-m43-BT2/MB_EF-m43-BM1), enhanced support for the EF-S 18-135/3.5-5.6 IS 'Nano' USM + PZ-E1 Power Zoom Adapter combination with power zoom control from the camera body. WARNING: EF-S 18-135/3.5-5.6 IS 'Nano' USM is incompatible with any Speed Booster, even after modification by removing the rear plastic shroud, because the rear element of the lens interferes with the front element of Speed Booster at 18mm (before boost). If PZ-E1 zooms the lens to 18mm by force, serious damage may occur. Restrict use of the EF-S 18-135/3.5-5.6 IS lens to the Smart Adapter without optics.
- Added EXIF lens names for Sigma 17-50/2.8 EX DC OS HSM, Tokina AT-X 11-20/2.8, Zeiss Otus 28/1.4, 55/1.4 and 85/1.4.
- Autofocus is enabled for Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K but performance may not meet expectation. Some lenses such as Canon EF85/1.2L II USM and Tokina Opera 50/1.4 may require external 5V power to be connected to the micro USB port of the adapter. Blackmagic autofocus may have great difficulty locking onto the target for Canon EF-S 18-135/3.5-5.6 IS STM and Canon EF-S 18-135/3.5-5.6 IS 'Nano' USM.
- Fixed compatibility issue with Tamron 10-24/3.5-4.5 VC HLD B023E.
- Fixed EXIF lens name when Canon EF Extender and Kenko Pro300 teleconverters are stacked and used with certain lenses.
- To promote adoption of the latest firmware we offer assurance that the upgrade is reversible by including all previous versions released in the last 2 years (in the same download). Within Metabones App you may select which version to downgrade to. However, if your firmware is was last updated in 2016 or earlier (version 2.60 or older), Metabones App may advise you that your upgrade will indeed be irreversible and the most you could downgrade was to the beginning of 2017 (version 2.65).

Firmware for all other MFT products remains unchanged at 3.00 level. - Changing iris on Panasonic using the adapter's jog lever requires first pushing the jog lever inward to activate. There is a customizable option in Metabones App to get back the previous behavior of activating jog lever iris control whenever the jog lever is pushed in, up, or down. In both cases, jog lever iris control terminates with the control relinquished to the camera body by pushing the lever inward.
